NSW Health – Legionella Hub

We gathered, analysed and documented requirements for a new web app for coordinating and auditing activity related to the prevention of Legionella outbreaks through cooling tower audits in New South Wales.

Working closely with a varied group of stakeholders, including key staff in the Population Health department, senior managers at Local Health Districts, and external contractors, we used a specification-by-example approach to validate the proposed functionality of the system with easily-understood feature definitions.

Starting with concept maps, we progressed to user stories, scenarios, and worked examples for each scenario. Using a MoSCoW approach we were then able to work with the team to prioritise features and functionality to ensure that the initial build would be viable, usable and successful in meeting the original goal.

An additional deliverable that was highly valued by the client was a set of Base Technology Principles. These were developed in consultation with the key stakeholders to provide a framework against which any conforming bid could subsequently be measured.

The level of detail allowed for highly accurate costing, which was noted in terms of the ability to do an effective cost/benefit analysis before commencing the tendering process.
